While there are many approaches to community lead work; we believe there are some fundamental components that galvanize community voice in to leading change:

  • Strong Theme: Clear intended result, value(s) and/or state of being.

  • Consistent Messaging: Clear, ongoing and effective communication to ensure that all players are at the table and stay connected.

  • Consistent Appeal: Making available spaces for the community at large to show up authentically and speak their truth. To continue to hold leaders accountable for the systems as they exist and the impact they have on Black lives.

  • Emotional Connection: Having a personal and emotional connection to the issues is critical to staying at the table as group navigate barriers.

  • Target Audience Clarity: Having a clear scope is critical to staying focused and prioritizing efforts. The people for whom you are working with and for.

  • Endorsements: Transparent and firm buy in necessary for developing and implementing change.

  • Networks: Systems are maintained cross-sector and require cross-sector alignment to dismantle and redesign them. Strategic alliances with leaders and organization you shared interests to help fuel the work.

  • Timeline: Setting timelines hold groups together, by setting clear goals and targets.
